Fun Father’s Day crafts for kids of all ages

Family Fun Zone

From toddlers to teens, all kids will enjoy expressing their creativity and their appreciation for dad with these simple Father’s Day crafts.

1. Hi, Tie Dye Tie!

Sure, he may not wear it to work (except maybe on a casual Friday), but Dad will love the energy and creativity your kid puts into this easy and fashionable neckpiece.

You’ll Need:

  1. A plain white necktie
  2. Rubber bands
  3. Empty spray bottles, one for each color
  4. Tie Dye pigment powder.

How to Make:

  1. Mix tie-dye pigment with water in spray bottles according to package recommendations.
  2. Pinch the white tie where you want the center of the tie-dye pattern to be. Secure a rubber band around the area of fabric you have pinched.
  3. Now, secure rubber bands in concentric circles around the small section you have already secured. It should take two or three more to tie up the whole tie.
  4. Take the ties outside, preferable where you can place them down on some grass, and let your little ones go wild painting them with the spray bottles. Assist them if necessary and be careful not to let the dye get on skin or clothes.
  5. Leave the ties to dry for a few hours. Untie the rubber bands when they are dry, wash, and iron.

2. Dad Rocks!

These adorable mounted “pet rocks” modeled after Dad will brighten any home or office space with a reminder of your child’s love.

You’ll Need:

  1. A small, round, flat rock.
  2. Googly eyes
  3. Acrylic paint or paint markers
  4. Super glue (not to be handled by children)
  5. A small white canvas.

How to Make:

  1. Before starting, attach the rock to the center of the canvas with super glue or a similar bonding agent. Attach googly eyes to the rock with the same adhesive. Let dry.
  2. Now, invite your child to transform the “pet rock” into a portrait of their dad by painting on the rock and around it on the canvas. They can use the rock as the face or full body to create their portrait, it’s up to them! Put down newspapers and have your kids wear disposable gloves and be extra careful, for easy cleanup. Remember, acrylic paint stains! Younger kids and toddlers who are not ready to use acrylics can complete this activity with paint markers, markers, or washable finger-paints.

3. Accordion Cards

These cards serve as a touching reminder of just how much a child’s love can brighten our day. It also preserves the handprint of your little one to capture a moment you can keep forever.

What You’ll Need:

  1. Two different colors of construction paper
  2. A pencil
  3. Scissors
  4. Markers
  5. A glue stick
  6. A large book or other flat, heavy, object

How To Make:

  1. Trace your child’s handprint on a piece of construction paper folded in half.
  2. Cut out, or have your child cut out the handprint. You should get two since the paper is folded!
  3. Cut out a long strip of another color construction paper. Write, “I love you this much!”, on the strip of paper with a visibly colored marker. Make sure to leave about two inches of space between the text and each end of the strip.
  4. Have your child decorate the hands on one side with the markers.
  5. Have your child fold back one end of the strip about one inch and glue the folded flap to the back of one of the cut-out hands. Help them continue to fold the strip accordion-style.
