Take some time before Juneteenth (June 19th, a holiday commemorating the emancipation of slaves in the United States) to read to your kids about the valuable contribution black Americans have made over the years.
Reading with your child is always a plus. Not only do they pick up on valuable literary skills, but they also gain knowledge and perspective on the world that will serve them well in the future.
It’s so important to teach your child about African American history, whether it’s their heritage or completely foreign to them. Simply put, exposing kids to diverse viewpoints makes them more mentally flexible, more understanding, and generally more successful in a diverse world.
